The Church
St Peter and St Paul's Church in Upton, near Newark, Nottinghamshire, is a distinguished Grade I listed Church of England parish church with a rich architectural and historical heritage.
🕍 Historical Overview
The church was originally established in the 13th century. Significant modifications occurred in the 14th century, including the rebuilding of the north aisle walls and the addition of a chantry chapel. The nave was also widened during this period. The 15th-century tower is particularly notable, featuring a Perpendicular style with three stages, corner buttresses, and a distinctive central pinnacle rising above eight crocketed pinnacles .
The church underwent restorations in 1820, 1867, and 1893, the latter by architect Charles Hodgson Fowler.
🎵 Organ
The current organ, built by Gray and Davison in 1900, is registered in the National Pipe Organ Register.
