New to Upton Fete 2025

Make, Bake and Grow

New to the Fete is a section called 'Make, Bake and Grow'.

These are classes for the village to embrace and join in.

Starting at a low base, but to be developed in 2026 we have a small number of items

Make 

For 2025 this will be a Make a Scarecrow Competition

Villagers are being encouraged to Make a Scarecrow with the theme of 'Disney Characters'

The Scarecrows should be displayed at the house of the maker throughout the village.

Villagers will be asked to pick up a score sheet and map from The X Keys pub and walk the village and review each entry against the others entered and score them.

The completed forms should be posted through the Scarecrow return box at the X Keys.

Then score sheet will be collated and the winners (First, Second and Third) will be announced at the Fete and prizes awarded.

Bake 

For 2025 there will be three classes - Recipes will be provided to those entering at least 2 weeks before the Fete

    Class 1 - Man in the Kitchen - A Victoria Sponge Cake to a provided Recipe.

    Class 2 - Brownies for Children Under 12 to a provided Recipe

    Class 3 - Open Class - A Coffee Cake to a provided Recipe

Grow 

For 2025 Villagers are encouraged to grow a Chilli Plant.

This is being run in association with Upton Cricket Club who have asked villagers to grow Chilli plants for the annual village Chilli & Boules day on Saturday August 30th 2025. The Chilli Plants will be judged on their appearance on the day, against a set of fun criteria
